Four Letter Words (2010) - Rob Seward
Four Letter Words consists of four units, each capable of displaying all 26 letters of the alphabet with an arrangement of fluorescent lights.
The piece displays an algorithmically generated word sequence derived from a word association database developed by the University of South Florida between 1976 and 1998. The algorithms take into account word meaning, rhyme, letter sequencing, and association.
The algorithm's tendency towards scatological or "dark" subject matter is influenced by a variety of language and perception studies, especially Elliot McGinnies' 1949 study "Emotionality and Perceptual Defense."
While the piece was conceived with idea of displaying algorithmically generated lists, it was designed with flexibility and expandability in mind. The individual units can be connected ad-infinitum, and are theoretically capable of displaying any length of text. While Four Letter Words deals with a specific range of content, the technology can be easily expanded for future textual experiments.

Michael schoner: A3 animals
Netherland based architect michael schoner has developed 'A3 animals'. these paper masks are made from A3 sized sheets which can be folded into an animal mask and is held together by ordinary office materials: staples and rubber bands. these templates are download a blein pdf format, printable from any office machine and can be duplicated in mass quantities. They are available with a rasterized xerox style patterns which plays with the geometric shapes both in its folded and unfolded state.
Schoner intentionally did not add holes for these masks helping to keep the emphasis on the geometric patterns themselves. users are given the title of 'paper-shamans' who are meant to emotionally connect to the animal. eventually as the mask are taken off, these 'native office artifacts' much like the animals they represent, decay after a short lifespan in the wastepaper basket.
Kitty
Kitty is a computer animation made by a group of russian physicists and mathematicians in 1968. They created a model of cat with a BESM-4 computer and were able to animate it. The result was printed out using alphabet symbols and then converted to the cinefilm.
Mikrokosmos
Mikrokosmos is an installation by Bigert & Bergström. The spherical photos are lit from the inside.
